Experiencing Burnout 101

High school is a lot. No really it is. You are in the "golden" teenage years, a time, for better or for worse, that you will never forget. There is a ton of homework. You have exams and tests to stress out on as well as trying to develop a social life and finally figuring out a little bit about who you are. It is a giant identity crisis mixed with academic stress all put together in a pressure cooker and perhaps it is all about to explode.

You are not alone. You have a support system around you that designed to help you through these stressful bouts.

  1. Family

  2. Friends

  3. Teachers

  4. Guideance Counselors

  5. Wellness resoources provided by your school

  6. US! ExtraIQ

It is so important to keep in touch with you support system, even if you don't want any help, just informing them of how you are feeling can make you feel so much better (we speak from experience)! Plus talking about tests, projects, clubs, events creates bonding experiences so this will just help you cultivate deeper bonds and relationships which is so important for your mental health and social skills later on in the future.

Most of all, make sure that you are prioritzing your happiness. This does not mean not doing homework or not studying for that test because technically this does not contribute to your overall long term happiness. We invite you to reflect on everything you are involved in, and whether your current commitments align with what you want to do in the future. This is a good chance to cut out commitments that do not bring you happiness or align with what you want to achieve in the future. This is also a chance to re-evaluate and see if there are other things you want to get involved in, whether because you find it interesting and/or it further prepares you for your plans post high school.

We are here for you, so please reach out! Most importantly, be happy :)
