Test Taking 101

Taking a test is arguably the most stressful thing a high school student experiences on a regular basis. The past couple of weeks have accumulated into these two hours that have the power to make or break you grade, and whether you sink or swim is up to you. So here is some test-taking tips to remember for your next test:

1. Write Things Down: for tests that depend on memorization, the best thing you can do is write everything down. The second you get your test in front of you, write down everything that you were supposed to memorize onto that test. This way, you won't have to worry about forgetting anything while actually taking it, saving you some stress. You also now have a "formula sheet" of sorts that you can look back on, which personally always makes me feel more at ease.

2. Manage Your Time: here is how I take tests, and it's worked pretty well so far. Just work as fast as possible. It's okay worry about mistakes and all that, but it's better to actually finish the test and have a couple of minor mistakes instead of not finishing the test at all. Skip questions that you don't know how to do, this just makes it more likely that you will finish all of the things you do know and will probably get right. Once you get to the end, go over the questions you couldn't do, and then if you have time left, check your work. This formula is the best way to make sure you get the highest grade possible, but remember to adjust for your needs if necessary.

3. Take A Moment: I know that this is the cheesiest piece of advice in the book, but it's true. Just take a moment before the test and remember that you know what you are doing and that you will do great. It has been a shown that feeling confident and having a high-self esteem will only lead to a better grade.

   
   

Just stay calm and keep calm. You will get through this.

At the end of the day, don't stress out too much over a test, just do what you can and you will get the grade that you deserve. Now this doesn't mean don't study, it just means don't spend hours reviewing material that you know. So challenge yourself and redo all of those homework problems.
